Life Transitions and Finding What Comes Next

Therapy around life transition, identity, and finding what comes next, including midlife.

Sometimes the question is simply, "Who am I now, and where do I go from here?"

Marriage, divorce, graduation, going back to school, kids growing up, becoming an empty nester, moving, retirement, career changes, aging parents, health changes, menopause, and simply getting older can all change more than our circumstances. They can change the way we understand ourselves. Sometimes we lose parts of ourselves along the way. Sometimes we find parts we had forgotten. Very often, we are losing ourselves and finding ourselves at the same time.

That is one reason therapy can be useful during these periods. You do not have to be falling apart. You do not have to have a diagnosis that explains everything. Sometimes you are simply trying to understand who you are in this version of your life and what you want to carry forward from the versions that came before.

How We Might Work

Helping people value who they are, understand their own story from a different perspective, and recognize that they are the experts in their own lives.

Losing Ourselves and Finding Ourselves

Major transitions can strip away roles we thought defined us. A parent may suddenly have an empty house. Someone who built an identity around work may retire. A marriage may end. A new relationship may begin. Someone may return to school at an age when they once assumed they would have everything figured out.

Letting Somebody Help Carry It

I spent a lot of years believing that doing things the hardest possible way somehow made them more worthwhile. It does not. There are no extra points for struggling alone, and there is nothing especially noble about making an already difficult transition harder than it has to be. If two people can carry a heavy load more easily than one, it makes sense to let somebody help carry it.

Approaches I May Draw On

  • Person-Centered
  • CBT
  • ACT
  • Narrative
  • Mindfulness-Based
  • Trauma-Informed
  • Family Systems
  • Attachment-Based
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Strengths-Based
  • Compassion-Focused
  • Play-Based Approaches

I don’t choose a theory and make you fit it. I draw from different approaches depending on who you are, what we’re working on, and what actually seems useful.

In-Home or Virtual

Therapy is available virtually for clients throughout Texas. In-home therapy may also be available in Killeen, Copperas Cove, Temple, and surrounding communities when it's a good fit for the client and the work we're doing.

You don't need to have everything figured out before you contact me.

Just tell me a little about what you're looking for, and we can go from there.
