Making Room for a Child’s Voice
A child may show you that something is hard long before they can explain it. I work with young children through teens and with the adults caring for them in Temple. Anxiety, grief, family stress, ADHD, or autism can be part of what brings someone to therapy, but the child remains more than a list of concerns.
What looks like a small change to an adult can feel much bigger to a child. I will ask what you have noticed at home and what the child has been able to say in their own way. We can begin there.
What We Can Notice Together
For younger children, play may offer a way to communicate when a direct conversation does not. Parents can be involved as it fits the child and the work. I spent nine years as a classroom teacher before becoming a therapist; I still want to understand this particular child rather than assume a familiar pattern tells the whole story.
When a child has trouble putting something into words, I pay attention to what happens in play and conversation. I also want to hear the parent’s questions, especially when several concerns are happening at once.
In Temple or on Screen
Temple is east of Killeen in Bell County. I do not have an office. In-home therapy may be available when it is a good fit for the child and the work; virtual sessions are also available.
Virtual sessions cost $175 and in-home sessions cost $200 per session. I arrange the schedule myself when travel is involved. We can talk about the child’s age and who should participate before setting a time.
Where to Begin
You can send me a message about what you have noticed, without trying to fit your child into a tidy description. A free 15-minute introductory conversation is available if you have questions about how they might take part.
A first message about your child does not need to contain a full history. You might tell me what you have noticed and what questions you have about their involvement. I will hear your concerns before suggesting where to start.
