How I Work
DBT Skills
When Feelings Are Intense
Some moments are too loud for a long conversation about why they happened. You may need a way to get through the next few minutes first. I draw on DBT skills when practical ways to respond to intense emotion or distress may fit the work.
This is not a full DBT program. I can bring particular skills into our sessions as one part of individualized therapy. We still pay attention to who you are, what led up to the moment, and whether a skill feels possible in your life.
Practicing Instead of Performing
We may take a recent difficult moment and slow it down. What did you notice first? What became harder to do? We could talk through a way to pause, make room for the feeling, or choose a response that does not add to the trouble. A session can be a place to try those steps without being graded.
Skills need to be usable outside the room. If something sounds good in theory but falls apart when your day gets complicated, that is information. I want to know what happened so we can adjust together rather than call it a failure.
For Different Ages
Teens, adults, and seniors may use these skills in different ways. With children, language and practice need to fit their age. Families may also need help talking about distress without turning every hard moment into a battle. We can decide which people and methods belong in the conversation.
I can combine DBT skills with person-centered, trauma-informed, or family systems approaches when they fit. A practical tool does not replace a genuine relationship. It gives us one more way to work with what you bring.
Where We Can Meet
I see clients virtually throughout Texas. In-home sessions may be available near Killeen, Copperas Cove, and Temple when that setting is a good fit for you and the work. We can consider where it would feel possible to practice these ideas honestly.
If intense feelings or distress are part of why you are looking for support, send a message. I handle scheduling directly, and you can start with a free 15-minute introductory conversation if you'd like. You do not have to know which skill you need before contacting me; that is something we can discuss together.
