How I Work
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Making Room for What Is Here
It can be exhausting to spend all your energy arguing with a thought or feeling that keeps returning. ACT offers a way to notice that experience without asking you to pretend it is pleasant. Acceptance here does not mean agreeing that a painful situation is fine.
I draw on ACT when it helps us make room for what is difficult while exploring what matters to you. The question is not how to never feel uncertainty again. It is how you want to live when uncertainty is part of the day.
The Conversation in Session
We may talk about a choice you have delayed because the discomfort around it feels too large. We could notice the thoughts that show up, name the values involved, and consider a small action that fits those values. No one has to make a dramatic change just because we discussed one.
I may ask what you want to stand for in a particular relationship or stage of life. You may not know yet. We can stay curious rather than rush toward a neat answer. Your own language matters more than a list of values I hand you.
Fitting the Person
ACT may fit teens, adults, and seniors facing change, stress, or identity questions. With children or families, I adapt the conversation to what they can use. An approach is only useful if it respects the age, goals, and circumstances of the people in the room.
I can draw on ACT alongside narrative, person-centered, or mindfulness-based work. We may need practical attention to the present and a wider look at the story around it. There is no requirement to work through one model from start to finish.
Starting From Your Life
Virtual therapy is available for people located anywhere in Texas. In-home sessions may be possible in Killeen, Copperas Cove, Temple, and nearby communities when it is a good fit. The setting should support the work we are doing, not dictate it.
You can send a message with the question or situation that has been on your mind. I handle scheduling myself, so we can consider a time and format together. A free 15-minute introductory conversation is available if you want to get a sense of how I work before choosing a session.
